HAIMER SHRINK TO FIT SYSTEMS

Mechanical clamping of tools has been around ever since man first strapped a rock, to the end of a stick! Thankfully things have moved on, just a little, since then! Grip, as they say, is everything in the tool holding business, or is it? Well its 50% of the story at least! Whatever the situation, a firm grip on the tool is an absolute must, if the tool is to have any chance of delivering, the promised performance you paid for. The tighter the better, is the key, but there is tight, and there is tight! An old engineering term still used quite often goes like this! “Do it as tight as you can, then give it another half turn”. Sounds impossible doesn’t it? Using the laws of physics, primarily those of expansion, we can give it that seemingly impossible extra half turn. If we take a tool holder and apply heat to the section that holds the tool, it will expand. If we then insert the tool while the holder is still hot it will slide in easily. If we then cool the holder it will shrink back onto the tool. The grip that is applied will be far tighter than anything you could apply by almost any other method. So that’s 50% of the story

The very nature of this type of clamping system has a “built out” advantage. There are no moving parts! This means by its very nature, it will be more accurate than any tool holder with moving parts, as there are no tolerances too accrue! Everything we do adds tool life and performance. This is the name of the game!

Do it as tight as you can, then give it another half turn!
